Yummy Pub Company aims to re-open fire-hit Somers Town Coffee House next week: Yummy Pub Company is planning to re-open its fire-hit flagship site, Somers Town Coffee House in Euston, next week. The company stated: “Last Friday (22nd June), The Somers Town Coffee House became the number one trending story for London and the number 20 rending story in the world, topping the likes of Beyonce as a fire raged through the upper parts of the building. Some 18 calls were received by the London Fire Brigade as the fire took hold. Within seven minutes of the calls the first engine arrived from Soho, quickly followed by crews from Euston, Islington, Kentish Town, Shoreditch and Paddington. Within 90 minutes, 72 fire crew and ten engines had the fire under control. 350 people were evacuated by Yummy staff in three minutes at 8.06pm when the pub was filled with customers across three levels. The team moved through each floor of the building whilst Ian Delgado, a Yummy supervisor, battled the flames on the top floor of the pub. Reported across national and international press, the team were a credit to Yummy with customers reporting the professionalism and calmness as the building was cleared.” Yummy Pub Co, led by Anthony Pender and Tim Foster, has operated the pub since late 2011. Foster said: “My team were simply incredible. Nothing prepares you for situations like this. It’s been an incredibly long weekend, but this pub is opening and opening quickly! We have 20 contractors here today; our partner, Charles Wells, has been with us all weekend and we are working together to make the magic happen. My target date (to re-open) is 5 July. We’ll have to take every day as it comes and the building reacts to the vicious assault from the fire, but we have never taken things lying down in Yummy and I intend that attitude to stay.” The fire is currently under investigation, but the London fire brigade have handed the building back as inconclusive cause currently. We know it’s not the extractor hoods, or kitchen, but are looking at everything else. Foster added: “The roof is totally destroyed as is 50% of the living accommodation on the second floor. Our meeting and dining rooms will need some TLC, but the main pub is just itching to trade. The out-pouring of love and messages from our industry has been simply incredible, from calls as the fire was in full blaze to messages flooding in. I couldn’t tell you another industry like it! Our team have been deployed across our other fab pubs to train, I have just left a two-day training session in Mile End with some incredible new talent to join us who are so engaged and motivated. We are so proud of Yummy. Somers Town will be restored to her former glory, at pace.”
